Fox Sports set to strike Socceroos deal

It has been reported in the Australian Financial Review that pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports is set to strike a deal for Australia’s matches in the final phase of 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Fox Sports will purchase the matches from rights holder Lagardere Sports (formerly World Sports Group) in a package that will reportedly include the 2019 Asian Cup.

Fox Sports previously bought Socceroos games from Football Federation Australia, but this time Lagardere held back the rights for the final phase qualifiers to sell directly to the market.

Australia begins their next round of qualifiers on September 1 in Perth against Iraq, with Fox Sports aiming to sell simulcasting rights of that match to a free-to-air broadcaster.
