Cricket Australia in negotiations with Qantas to live stream cricket on flights

It is reported Cricket Australia and domestic airline Qantas are in negotiations to live stream international cricket matches across domestic and international Qantas flights.

The airline, which at the end of this year starts a trial of free WiFi on domestic flights, expect to fully rollout WiFi across its domestic Boeing 737’s and Airbus A330’s in 2017, and with that extra service, a live content arrangement between the two parties is being explored.

Qantas boss Alan Joyce, is quoted: “A flight from Sydney to Perth should be enough time to catch an entire match of 20/20 which is fitting when you’re flying the Spirit of Australia.

“Live cricket is just one of the partnerships we are looking at. And it’s in addition to the streaming services you’ll be able to access just as you do on the ground.

“The technology we’ve chosen delivers speeds up to 10 times faster than conventional on-board WiFi and that will give our passengers a lot of options in how they spend their time on a flight.”

Qantas has been a Cricket Australia sponsor since December 2011.
