Cronulla switch major partners on the verge of 2017 season
NRL club Cronulla will start the 2017 season with a new major partner after the club agreed an “amicable” termination with a former partner.
Solar panel supplier Opal Solar have stepped in to become the clubs’ naming rights partner after Southern Radiology signalled to Cronulla that they were seeking to end their contract a season early.
Last December it was reported that Cronulla were looking out for a new top tier sponsor after Southern Radiology’s parent company, the ASX-listed Capitol Health, hit financial troubles and requested to terminate their involvement with the club.
In an earlier statement the club said: “We sincerely thank Southern Radiology for their invaluable contribution towards our club’s success and the integral role they have played in our club’s evolution. We look forward to continuing to support them at the local level.”
Cronulla’s agreement with Opal Solar will run for two seasons, ending at the end of 2018, and will see Opal Solar branding appear on the front of the first-team and under 20’s jerseys, commencing with the club’s season-opening match with the Brisbane Broncos on Thursday.
Cronulla chief executive officer Lyall Gorman said: “Opal Solar has a clear vision to become the number 1 supplier of solar panels in Australia and to continue to broaden their business and brand. Their hunger and aspiration to reach the very pinnacle of their industry is strongly aligned to our own club’s focus on becoming the club of choice in the NRL.”
